Alexeyev cashes in, wins second straight race

A gutsy call by rookie Tyler Hart to pit off-cycle from the rest of the field did not pay off in the San Diego 120. The beneficiary of this was a certain driver who had visited victory lane in the previous race and was about to cement his place among the best in the AAA National Series.

Starting in the 19th position, the #25 X5 Retail Group Dodge had its work cut out. Magnitogorsk, where Gleb Alexeyev moved as a 6-year-old, is acclaimed for being the centerpiece of the iron and steel industries throughout Russia. In Pikes Peak, Alexeyev showed the strength of steel in clawing his way up to and around Ian Fallon to nab an emotional first win. Today in San Diego, he showed durability like iron in obtaining and holding a sizable gap over Scawles' new acquisition Walter Green and Wayne Saunders for his second consecutive win.

"Such a good day", the cheerful Russian exhaustedly said during his post-race interview with the local RPMtv affiliate covering the race - his A/C unit inside the car gave out with about 30 laps to go! "I am so happy for whole team. They give me good car today. I had to push a lot, but they [the pit crew] do good job and we come out strong, I think like 3rd, and then leader can't make it to the end of race. I do lot of driving, but team give me this win. I was in good place because of them."

He was then told that he is back in the fight for the championship with only a handful of races to go and asked about how he must feel having this kind of success while being so far from his home country.

"It's incredible", Alexeyev responded with a tear forming in his eye. "It mean everything to me. I do the best to make them proud every day. Feel good to know that they are proud of... of my choice to come here and do my passion."

The 27-year-old Nizhnekamsk-born driver celebrated a birthday late last month and since that day, he has not fallen short of the winner's circle. He is propelled 8 spots upwards in the standings with another win into 3rd, just over 100 points behind Kenny Gerrelds Incorporated's sole entry in the ANS - points leader Brady Zykov. Teammate Mardiros Fermanian, who according to select sources around the league has been considered for a reserve role as early as the season finale at Livonia, finished in 9th and has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season. Alexeyev was not given too many high hopes around the paddock, but it seems that many eyeballs are turning to look at him now. With his contract lasting until the end of next season, there only seems to be even more potential for this young man to show.

Who had the brilliant idea to make me an admin of something?
