Race will be up soon.

Grant Jacobs looks to regain form in familiar territory

Once again putting up a season he’d rather forget, Grant Jacobs returns to the site of his last of 2 AERS victories this weekend at the Delaware Speedway. Jacobs won the 2011 running of Delaware off of Herb Cilantro misfortune. At the time, Jacobs was considered one of the top AERS young drivers, and since then, is seen as an afterthought, week after week.

His last solid run was in 2015 at the Canaan Valley Speedpark in West Virginia, where he eventually fell off due to front end damage he sustained late in the race after driving in 2nd for a good chunk of it. Jacobs has really yet to put up a run like that since, and he knows time is running out for him if he wants to sustain respect from his team.

“It’s just rough,” he said before the Imperial 250 in his pit stall, “I’ve been really fortunate to be brought to this prestigious league so quickly and I haven’t really taken off with it like I’d hoped. The last few years have been downright not fun and I’d say I’ve lost a good portion of my passion for racing. Obviously I still get up to compete and I would like to do my best every race, but man, the years we’ve had as a team just are downright miserable as a whole. It’d be nice to get back on track here tonight, personally it would go a long way.”

Many fans seem to agree that he was rushed into an AERS ride way too quickly. And when Brad Simmons inherited the #40 team in 2011, Jacobs immediately saw poorer results which begs to ask, is it the driver or is it the team?

“I am thankful for everything Mr. and Mrs. Simmons have given me. I 100% take responsibility, myself and the team. It’s not something we can pinpoint and just fix overnight. We’re putting band-aids on our problems instead of fixing them, the problem is we don’t know how to even pinpoint these problems. It’s something we’re running out of time on to figure out.”

Jacobs will roll off the grid starting in the 16th position in his Fidelity Ford. He was 7th quick in final practice yesterday afternoon.
