PostSubject: 2015 PTRL XM Radio National Series Race 7: Spartanburg (Dish Network 250)   Tue Oct 04, 2016 4:41 pm

Entry List:

The seventh stop on the schedule takes us to the relatively new Spartanburg Raceway Park (known as Nightstalker in NR). A 1.273-mile oval built around 2008, less professionally known as Nightstalker Raceway Park, has hosted mainly regional races and a select few national events. It does not particularly have the most navigable garage areas as space for teams fills quickly, but it has provided for good racing in the past. Hopefully, this series can continue that trend.

Wyatt Herdson was listed in the 25 for Candlestick, but Jack Spanaker lobbied to get the 25 for the race taking place in his hometown and is believed to be sacrificing Road Atlanta to Herdson in exchange for this. His teammate in the 23 is Dan Winston, likely to run some more midwest races later on. Caleb Kovic is starting this week and potentially running another race in the Team 4 #84. Jack Demarest is piloting the #70, hilariously sponsored on the associates. Roman Mustain makes his first attempt (and an attempt at best) in the 74 while Mat Duncan returns to Dormann. The iconic duo of Marchankov and Kim return for Bolghomme, J.R. Jones brings Bank of America to a team that totally needs it and Joshua Paulken, formerly a driver for Dunmore Family Autosport in 2009, gives Marchant Racing a legitimate chance to make the race. Thanks, Summit Performance.

Q-Race:

Whew, this was eventful. 6 cautions in 60 laps including the race-ending one which was the last of many Eun Yong Kim-caused cautions. Boy, does Ian Bolghomme have any way to get a worse reputation in the garage?

J.R. Jones started on the pole unsurprisingly and started out to an early lead, but the Bolghomme cars and Roman Mustain made life tough for everybody and cars in cntention found themselves in danger in a matter of 5 seconds. The 52 of Kim was roughly 10 seconds off the pace of the leaders... that's not good. Damon Miller looked like he had zero perception Kim was growing in his windshield, ran into the back of the 52 and spun himself out with help from Michael Blue. Yellow #1 on Lap 1.

Off Turn 2 on the restart, Kim sideswipes the 01 for some reason and shoots back down across the track, ironically, into Damon Miller. Kim spins out, tries to regain control and fails, spinning out again. Yellow #2 on Lap 19.

After a few green flag laps, Mouta is slow with Miller passing on the inside and Jared MacDonald to the outside. MacDonald misjudges his move and hits the back of the 9, gets squirrely and swerves down into the 15 which sends both cars around in the quad oval. MacDonald is hit by Michael Blue, who is ran into by the helpless Jack Spanaker who retires from his home race due to the engine damage. Not like he was going to make it without attrition around him and he happened to get caught up in it. Yellow #3 on Lap 25.

Car Wars: The Dormann Strikes Back. Mat Duncan drives right through Mouta as if to avenge his stricken teammate and spins him out. Yellow #4 on Lap 32.

On Lap 43, J.R. Jones falls victim to Aleksandr Mouta and Brooks Harford capitalizes to take the lead. This became something static, but before Jones could really change it, Michael Blue runs into the back of Eun Yong Kim again and spins both of them out. Yellow #5 on Lap 51.

Brooks Harford restarted with the lead, but Turn 2 was all they made it through. Marchankov, Minhas and Mouta went 3 wide momentarily as Mouta drifts up toward the wall and bounces off of it into Caleb Kovic. Kovic gets loose, hits Mouta's left rear, is shot down into Mat Duncan and would have spun out if not for Nolan Venables being there. Duncan shoots up into the wall and hits Mouta who then hits the wall and comes back down into Venables and causes both cars to spin out. Yellow on Lap 56.

The infamy Venables gained after Pocono and Richmond has turned as he was likely in a transfer spot because of Mouta, Marchankov and Kim holding the field up and Venables passing several cars with the incident unfolding in front of him, only for him to be caught up in it. This gained him some sympathy afterward, but he was understandably livid over the radio, brakechecking Mouta under pacing coming to the checkered flag. If not for the lapped car of Quincy Davis lining up between Harford and the rest of the field, Jones may have had a chance to catch the 28.

Not many surprises to make the field. Even Josh Paulken had a good run all weekend thus far and earns himself a spot. Caleb Kovic makes it for the unsponsored Team 4 Camry in 15th and Mat Duncan's battered #55 makes it through where he almost spun out to lose it.

Voyles redeem himself from Charlotte DNQ after making the show

Last race at Charlotte Daniel Voyles got his first career DNQ in his PTRL career and this week he finished 10th which was good enough to make the race at Spartanburg main race. Voyles who was 41st in points coming into the main event did not talk to reporters after the Qualifying race.

Pericles Not Struggling in Q Races So Far This Season, Reverse For Main Races

So Far Kassandra hasn't been struggling as we thought she would. She has always finished well in those Q Races and hasn't struggled at all. Yet She hasn't had good luck in the Main races at all. Always has been struggling to even crack the top 15. Maybe Spartanburg will be her breakthrough?
