PostSubject: 2015 PTRL XM Radio National Series Race 3: Watkins Glen (Wegmans 150K at the Glen)   Mon Jun 22, 2015 6:53 pm

Entry List:

Preston Bell has grabbed the points lead heading into southern New York, which will be the closest Lester, MacDonald and Napolitano will get to a home race (Lester based only 20-30 minutes from the track). With Mario Romero appearing this week, Darren Reynolds will have to race his way in via the qualifying race, but it shouldn't be a difficult task as long as Eun Yong Kim and any backmarkers faster than him stay out of the way.

Also, we have 6 new full-time entries making their debuts this week; all are making their first ever PTRL starts. Andrew Darby (though he did run OTRS back in 2010 and did fairly well), Brad Carter, Cooper Brand, Alli Kittleson, Kyle Callahan and Chase Smith will all try to race their way into Watkins Glen and put their names on the board.

So Newbridge's DSQ has been overturned after further review of the accident has convinced the officials that it was more of a racing deal. Ravi Minhas will be able to race as Delta Force Motorsports will use Gavin Warwick's car and repair as much as possible on it beforehand.

Qualifying this week was done in groups (2 of 11, 2 or 10) with no incidents occurring.

STARTING GRID

1. 31 Karl Hammarling [1:04.563]
2. 2 Andrew Cross [1:04.644]
3. 1 Ty Sheets [1:04.851]
4. 11 Troy Cowie [1:05.016]
5. 4 Earl Graham [1:05.104]
6. 54 Ben Ross [1:05.368]
7. 36 Alex Robbins [1:05.606]
8. 26 Cooper Brand [1:05.640]
9. 18 Chase Donovan [1:05.657]
10. 16 Patrick Johannson [1:05.774]
11. 14 Mario Romero [1:05.822]
12. 21 Darren Reynolds [1:06.019]
13. 44 Cliff Jensen [1:06.035]
14. 66 Joaquín Ortega [1:06.036]
15. 39 Tim Hutchinson Jr. [1:06.080]
16. 87 Steven Conway [1:06.114]
17. 19 Barry Juveno [1:06.272]
18. 63 Sal Veras [1:06.389]
19. 6 Reed Church [1:06.400]
20. 22 Grant Carsons [1:06.445]
21. 91 Kassandra Pericles [1:06.446]
22. 49 Eric Webler [1:06.526]
23. 90 Nick Pericles [1:06.575]
24. 13 Casey Lester [1:06.617]
25. 82 Ryan Napolitano [1:06.698]
26. 98 Bjorn Brewer [1:06.761]
27. 72 Chase Smith [1:06.951]
28. 3 Preston Bell [1:07.055]
29. 05 Brad Carter [1:07.067]
30. 89 Daniel Voyles [1:07.301]
31. 41 Mark Mallat [1:07.563]
32. 32 Alli Kittleson [1:07.567]
33. 99 Pat Demps [1:07.919]
34. 27 Ravi Minhas [1:08.265]
35. 60 Leon Gapreon [1:08.285]
36. 57 Winston Rivers [1:08.295]
37. 02 Olive Blue [1:08.396]
38. 01 Michael Blue [1:08.508]
39. 43 Jared MacDonald [1:08.679]
40. 15 Damon Miller [1:09.081]
41. 96 Tobias Newbridge [N/A]
42. 84 Miikko Aittokallio [N/A]

Newbridge had mechanical issues in his group and did not put in a valid time. How ironic considering he was just approved to run this event. Aittokallio, as mentioned, was not permitted to run and will start last. Damon Miller just missed the 1:08 second bracket and will be the final car that took time.

Cliff Jensen is looking to desperately pick himself up in points as he is currently at the bottom of the point standings, but he's not quite up to Karl Hammarling's pace and the Swedish driver is already being predicted to win this race.

Pat Demps seemed surprisingly off in his session, qualifying 33rd in the end. RDA has fallen off quite a bit compared to their performance in the past in PTRL, but Brewer's been alright so far. Also, Lester-Hayes Motorsports team owner Casey Lester is back in 24th while his other two cars are in the Top 15; can't imagine he's too pleased with that.

Cautions are being turned off for the race. I keep finding that they all screw themselves over under pacing coming to the green by turning each other or passing and getting black flags before the line. 2012v2 isn't recommended for the future... silent

Real life has been hitting hard lately. Dunno when it'll let up, but I'll keep trying to work on the video for WGI. Stay tuned.

Voyles blamed himself after crashing into the tire wall

Daniel Voyles missable season continues as this time he caused a brain fade of his own and drove thru into a tire wall and took out the 01 car during the cycle of pit stops. Voyles declined an interview after he climbed out of his car

Hammarling settles with second, surprisingly upbeat in spite of defeat

After pit stops had cycled out and Ben Ross took himself out in the way several oddly did during the Wegmans 150K at the Glen, Andrew Cross had a lightning-fast stop and his crew got him out a fair distance ahead of Karl Hammarling (which I seemed to not pay attention to at all during the broadcast), who had dominated the event up until that point. Cross' car seemed to be equal to Hammarling, but Cross had no traffic in front of him to deter his voyage to victory and gave Alpine Team Audi their first win very quickly and unexpectedly. Hammarling, as the sportsman he is known to be, was not discouraged by the loss and gave credit to the victor and his crew for being the better of the two when it mattered. His grin seemed to be contagious to all the reporters there.

"I do not feel upset at all. Yes, we did not win today, but I have a big reason to smile." Hammarling said with improving English. "We get beat by the better driver and team today. He was the only person I see near me all weekend and he got the job done when he needed to. There is no way I would rather lose a race. Great job by the 2 car today. My crew did fantastic today and gave everything I needed to win, but we just didn't win at the end of today. That is that. We will come back better at the next course and try to win again."

From Bolghomme Racing Team just three years ago, Hammarling has taken his opportunity with Lester-Hayes Motorsports in stride with some good showings at, what a shock, road course events and has been in contention for wins mainly there whilst lagging back a bit on the ovals. Hammarling is an accomplished sports car racer with a few victories to his name in the GT class. While not a premier name in Europe, he has always showed an interest in American stock cars, but did not expect to find a lot of success coming in. The Swede has done fairly well and, with his current team, could be a major force to be reckoned with in the future. After all, he's only 32 years old. He has plenty of time ahead of him to sharpen his skills. With the bright smile he's got, he's looking like another Preston Bell-like character in the garage already.

Michael Blue makes a complete tool of himself at the Glen, as Olive Blue anything but a road course expert, comes home with what she calls a "respectable" finish

Michael Blue, gj....that's all I will say on that.

Olive Blue, went from 37th to 26th, and most people wouldn't be happy with that run, but Olive isn't like most people. "We are a small team, and if there is one thing I know about myself, is I suck at road courses. Yeah, I know 26th isn't a good run, but we managed to stay off the highlight reel in the way of brainfade or incidents. We kept our nose clean and ran our race. And you know what, there is always the next race and the next time. We learned and we move forward."
