PostSubject: 2015 PTRL XM Radio National Series Race 1: Thunder Bay (XM 200)   Sun May 03, 2015 12:07 am

The schedule doesn't even have four races confirmed yet, but I've got plenty of different options to choose from with it. Oh, well. Time to get this moving.

Entry List (one-offs in italics):

Each of these 52 cars will partake in a test session. The fastest 25 cars will be locked into the main event while the remaining 27 will be sent to the qualifying race where 17 will fill the remaining spots in the race. Not sure if this format will stick for all the over-capacity events. but it seems like it's efficient.

Red Viper Racing stunned most of the garage with both of their cars snagging Top 5 spots and Kassandra Pericles nabbing the pole by over two tenths of a second ahead of the Team 4 teammates of Ben Ross and Earl Graham. Ross has been out of competition for four years, but the car he's in made it seem like he never stepped away. Ryan Napolitano was probably almost as much of a shock; in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, he solidly got into the main race with a 13th-place run. The other Staten Island native, Jonathan DiVierdi, has his work cut out for him in the struggling Candlestick Racing entry.

Tim Hutchinson Jr. was the unlucky soul stuck on the outside looking in as Brad Windsor bumped him down to the Qualifying Race and having to deal with the Bolghomme sloths there, too. At least he'll start first. Karl Hammarling was unable to run a fast enough lap and the Swede will have to earn his way in, but with that LHM car, it shouldn't be hard at all to accomplish. Bjorn Brewer, Reed Church and Pat Demps, all former stars of this series, aso seemed off their usual pace. Church and Cliff Jensen both reported problems on their laps with the latter fuming over the radio about it.

Wyatt Herdson blew up after setting one lap in his run, managing to pull it onto pit road before the commitment cone in the process. Candlestick Racing decided to pull the car from the event as that was the only motor they planned on using and said that Herdson's car had been having other problems all weekend anyway.

Hutchinson "not happy" with race team this weekend

It's not the end of the world that Tim Hutchinson, Jr., did not lock his Dodge into the XM 200, the first race of the PTRL XM Radio National Series, but locking yourself into the race gets rid of a lot of stress that may build up over the weekend if having to do otherwise. Tim Hutchinson, Jr's #39 was one spot shy of locking his race team into the event.

"The car sucks so far and I'm not happy with how my team has responded," he said, "We probably should be up there competing with the best in this series considering we have some great equipment. To show up this weekend with a shit car like this is disappointing to say the least. I'm disgusted with everything so far."

When asked about the rest of the weekend, Hutchinson had this to say, "I'll tell you what, I don't think we'll be racing in the big show if we don't get our shit together. I'm livid."

Hutchinson, Jr. has been known to be insanely competitive, even at times where competitiveness isn't as necessary, such as the session referring to. We'll see how the 39 team responds to his harsh comments, but for now, their driver is upset.

A few cautions kept the field bunched, caused by either the 0 or 52 cars jamming everyone up. All three Dormann cars got banged up after not using brakes after the 0 moved down to the inside to get out of the way. Jared MacDonald did likewise, but still ran well enough to make it in. Damon Miller let down his guys after starting 5th to end with a big fat DNQ with Reid and Duncan directly following him in the order. Pat Demps had a problem coming to the green with about 12 to go and lost a lap getting back to the pits and refiring the car, but rumor has it that he might kick some cash towards one of the smaller teams to keep his points hopes intact.

Speaking of Robbie Dunmore's team, Bjorn Brewer had a great run on the outside coming to the checkered to edge out Church by a foot and win the race while Hammarling got taken out of a three-wide finish by Justin Reid holding him up and sending him to third.

Quincy Davis managed to avoid trouble and earns himself a spot in the main event, although I wouldn't have high hopes for his performance there (the same can be said for anyone outside the Top 5, really). Other than Demps, there weren't many surprises that missed the show.

DOTD: 98 Bjorn Brewer
ROTR: Bolghomme Racing Team

#39 team responds, posts 4th place finish in Qualifier

After being visibly upset with his teams performance earlier, Tim Hutchinson Jr. and his team will advance to the XM 200 following a 4th place finish in the Qualifier. Hutchinson did not lead any laps, but was noticeably happy after emerging from his car.

"I'm really glad my guys responded the way they did, really glad. It's nice to see they took my harsh comments to heart, and I think that'll go a long way in how our season progresses."

JN Motorsports will have both cars in the field, as Steven Conway posted a time good enough to qualify for the main event earlier.

N.Pericles:" We came in here thinking we could get around a top 20 in the qual. We turned out to be really fast. Which is a good thing, just have to keep up this newfound starting Momentum."
K.Pericles:" I drove the shit out of that car, i'll tell ya that."

Teams stand up to ride-buying attempts, Demps to take Windsor's place in XM 200

Robert Dunmore was frantic in the garage, asking teams to give their spot up in the race for his full-time entry who's mechanical issue on a restart spoiled his Top 10 run and a chance to qualify for the main event. Ravi Minhas was not pleased when he was informed that Dunmore had been in negotiations with the #27 Delta Force Motorsports team.

"We earned this spot, fair and square." The 34-year-old British Columbia-born California native commented. "The 99 missed the race and he's gotta deal with it. We're struggling and need to make these races and get ourselves situated. A sponsor deal might come up and we'd rather take that than be bribed to leave on Saturday. They've got five times the money we do. It's just upsetting to me that they find the need to ask the teams that need to be in these races the most to get out of the way so one of their three cars can collect more money for them. They just don't need it. It's sick."

Nobody else spoke out as abruptly against the ride-buying attempts as Minhas, but they weren't amused with the idea and also rejected, leaving Dunmore with no choice but to swap the 97 of Brad Windsor for the full-time entry. The driver only said to the media "I'm not happy about it, but I understand why it had to be done."

Demps will start 42nd due to the driver change, so he will not be permitted to qualify along with the rest of the field as it would not affect his starting position.

Their times tied and I put them in that order out of random (didn't matter since both were easily locked in anyway).

Voyles Disappointed with 29th place finish in PTRL Debut in 2015

After the checkered flag flew at Thunder Bay, Daniel Voyles came home with a 29th place finish after almost getting involved early in the race. " I'm a little bit disappointed with the finish but the good news is the car is in one piece and that's something we can be proud of at American Racing" He said to the press after the race. "Everyone at the Buffalo Wild Wings Machine did a very good job and I believe we can improve on this car as the season goes along and no question we will get a lot better."

Minhas upset with self after embarassing performance, Team 4 impressed with Graham in debut race, Robbins and Jensen exchange words after the race

There wasn't much to be noted in the way of press entering the XM 200, but there was much that happened during the event to open up discussion afterwards. Not all conversation had was pleasant.

Delta Force Motorsports was not pleased with Ravi Minhas' performance in the event as he was anuisance to the leaders on multiple occasions, causing the race-ending caution and taking out Troy Cowie from a Top 5 finish. Cowie went over to the #27 pit box and had choice words for Minhas, telling his crew chief to relay to the British Columbia-born driver "to get some extra f***ing mirrors in his car" after he was released from the infield care center. Minhas has some limited experience in sports cars, but has mainly run rally racing prior to running here in PTRL.

"What I did out there was inexcusable. That's not how I typically am; I just haven't had much time to adapt to these new cars yet." Minhas said of himself. Visibly upset, his situation was not much better with his crew coming over to him and backing the two or three reporters away from them angrily.

Troy Cowie was wasn't happier than Minhas' crew.

"We had a winning car today, but we end up in the f***ing garage area because of some dips**t tearing out his mirrors and forgetting the rear windshield is there at all. That is not acceptable at all. Have his ass suspended for a week, please." Cowie was understandably angered as now he will have to run the qualifying race at Boston in one of the fastest cars on the circuit thus far. Unless backmarkers prevent him, he shouldn't have any trouble passing through to the main race. Nonetheless, the Iowa native was in no mood to speak further to the press.

However, the fireworks did not end there. Ignition problems forced Cliff Jensen out of the race, but he and Tatianna Robbins' incident that brought out the first caution of the race may have led to those problems. Robbins was none too pleased over her radio about the crash where the 44 moved up in front of her and caused him to spin out and collect Darren Reynolds in the 21, even though she received little to no damage. Jensen either had no idea that the 69 was there or his spotter failed to inform him in time that he was not going to be clear on the outside. Jensen was not willing to take the blame, saying that the 69 "flat-out dumped his ass on the first lap". Once the race ended, Jensen walked over to the 69 and had some words for her on the matter that couldn't be picked up. He had some not-so-nice words

"She dumps me on Lap 1 of a 75-f***ing-lap race... what a dumb b**ch. I was moving up in front of her and she didn't try to stop and ran over me. That's f***ing garbage. We've worked months on end to get this car dialed in and we get f****d over before we get a lap in and finish 40-somethingth. It's crap that I get pinned for something that wasn't my f***ing fault."

"Asshole cut over on me on the first lap. It's ridiculous." Tatianna told reporters. "He comes over like it's my fault when his dumb ass almost took maybe 5 people out. I had a run on him and he cut the outside off before I could even get there. How is that my fault?"

Seemingly, the only team that was completely satisfied with their weekend was Team 4. While JN Motorsports suffered performance issues, Lester Racing encountered mechanical issues and Donovan Motorsports Limited had two of their four cars fail to finish, Team 4 had all three of their entries finish inside the Top 5 with Earl Graham taking out the victory under yellow.

"We're very pleased with our run this weekend." Trent Brittain, the team owner, commented on their successes. "We've got plenty of funding behind us and good equipment to keep these good finishes going throughout the entire season. There is no doubt here that we can win the 2015 championship. None at all."
