PostSubject: REPORTS: Sunoco To Step Away From AARO   Mon Aug 12, 2013 6:33 pm

With the AARO's return to racing still being negotiated for 2014, rumors are abound that an integral part of it will not come back along.

Sunoco Inc., which cut spending on AARO-related ventures last October by 10%, is reported to have been considering ending its seven-year relationship with the sanctioning body, which began in 2006 after longtime provider Unocal 76 ended its contract.

The reason for the departure, should it happen, is apparently in the wake of the 2012-13 AARO lockout, its second in four years. The constant lulls in promised racing action (and subsequent promotion) have apparently peeved the management at Sunoco headquarters.

Sunoco executives could not be reached for comments about the veracity of this information.

Should the word come true, 76, which re-bid for rights to provide fuel in 2010 but lost out to a Sunoco renewal, could emerge as a candidate to return to its former place, along with Shell, who signed a deal with Brian Hensler's #10 team for the upcoming season - remember that when a spokesperson for the corporation was interviewed after news broke of the deal, he said "we would have gotten a lot more involved if we could, but the chance wasn't there."
